Happy Thanksgiving!

As I write this, I’m sure most of you are preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday. Whether you are going to be celebrating it with family and friends around the lake, around the country or possibly around the globe, the Board of Directors and I would like to wish you and yours a very Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

We have several celebrations and other items I would like to bring to your attention, so please take a moment to scroll through the rest of our newsletter.

Come celebrate with us!

The Roaring Brook Lake Garden Club and the Property Owner’s Association are sponsoring a Holiday Party on December 9th . It is open to all residents of our RBL community. It will be hosted at a one of our neighbor’s homes around the lake. The cost will be $15 per person, and we ask you bring an appetizer or dessert item of your choice. This is a great opportunity to get together and share the holiday spirit with our fellow residents. With all the events going on around the world, this is something we can all use! I hope you can attend.

All reservations and payments must be received by Wednesday, December 6th. Payments will also be accepted at the Garden Club’s annual Winter Sale (see below). For reservations or further information, email rblgarden@gmail.com.

The Garden Club’s Winter Sale

Speaking of the Winter Sale, The RBL Garden Club will be holding this annual event on Saturday, December 2nd from 9am until 12pm in front of the upcoming Hudson River Brewery (the old stores at the entrance). It will feature hand-crafted wreaths, centerpieces, and winter greens, as well as their 2024 calendar filled with gardening tips and pictures of our lovely neighborhood.

At 4pm that same day, another event we always look forward to is a special visit from Santa arriving with the assistance of volunteers of the Putnam Valley Fire Department at Two Bridges Park (Children’s Beach). Santa will love to see all the children from around the lake. He will also be assisting with the Garden Club’s annual Christmas Tree lighting. Refreshments will be offered, plus they will have carol singing for all to join in.

For further information on either of these events, or to pre-order items from the Winter Sale, email rblgarden@gmail.com.

Santa’s second RBL visit

Santa loves Roaring Brook! His Fire Department elves will be bringing him back for a trip around the lake on December 16th . When you hear the fire truck’s replacement for sleigh bells, bring the kids down to the bottom of your driveway for some candy canes. If you are not directly on Lake Shore Road, don’t worry. They will stop wherever the school buses stop and will also be at the stores. Stayed tuned for when he is scheduled to be here. Of course, we hope nothing happens, but if there is a fire call, they may have to alter the schedule they post.

Lake lowering and sand reclamation

You have probably noticed the level of the lake has gone down by about 5 feet. For those new to the area, the lake lowering is something which occurs annually. The amount it is lowered is determined by several factors. Protecting the seawalls, freezing milfoil to prevent weeds next summer, dock repairs and sand reclamation are just a few of the reasons. This year, the 5-foot drop was done to reclaim sand at Park Beach and Children’s Beach. I’m happy to report the Park Beach has already been completed and Children’s Beach will take place shortly. As you can see by the photos throughout the newsletter, the sand reclamation has allowed us to create a nice slope in the swimming area and cover all the rocks, which has been a cause of many complaints by those who use that beach. I’m confident the water level will rise back to its normal level by spring, so we can all enjoy the wonderful resources we have.

Please take our survey!

Thank you to everyone who has already filled out the RBL Survey. If you haven’t already completed it, we would encourage you to do so. High participation will provide the best data and given we all love RBL and have great ideas, we would love your suggestions for the website and POA initiatives via this quick 5 question survey. The survey is open through the end of 2023 and is anonymous.

Multiple people within resident families including high-schoolers who grew up on RBL are all encouraged to participate.

For easy access, please find the link to the survey here.

If you have any trouble with accessing it, please feel free to send an email to writetofederici@gmail.com and we can help.

Early in 2024, we will summarize survey inputs and share them back out with the RBL community.

Akshi Federici, Corresponding Secretary
